How these are measured
Power-play time is every second a team has more skaters on the ice than its opponent with both goalies in net (5-on-4, 5-on-3, 4-on-3); the penalty kill is the mirror, and 5v5 is five skaters a side with both goalies in. A pulled goalie for a delayed penalty is not power-play time. The manpower state comes from the play-by-play situation codes, second by second, with the shift charts standing in for games whose codes are stuck. Every shot is placed in the state it was taken in on that same timeline.
Expected goals are puckmodel's shot model (unblocked shots on a goalie in net). Rates over a window are pooled: total xG over total minutes in the window, so a game with a short power play counts for less than one with eight minutes of it. Charts start at a team's third game. Ten games is roughly 45 power-play minutes and 450 5v5 minutes: enough to see form, not enough to settle it, so the season-to-date rate sits alongside.
Finishing is 5v5 goals minus expected goals; goaltending is 5v5 expected goals against minus goals against (positive = fewer goals allowed than the shots deserved). Both swing a lot over ten games and mostly regress. Power-play goals have run about 10% above expected goals every season since 2010-11.
Shot maps count unblocked shots (or their xG) taken from the offensive zone, per 60 minutes in the chosen situation, smoothed over a few feet, minus the league average for the season; the colour scale is shared by every team so maps can be compared. Shots-against maps show the opponents' shots toward the team's own net. Small windows give noisy maps; Season is the steadiest view.
